Part 2: Define Your Style

I know I know its been a long time coming. This is part two of the “Define your Style” challenge that I started back in april you can see it here. I finished exams and then everything went crazy from there ( a bit of laziness in there too). I am now in Lala land (los angeles) visiting the family and friends and having a great time in the sunshine! So anyway I will continue on to part two. Here it is:

After looking through all the looks and pictures that you selected  over the past few weeks write down the main patterns and divide it like this.

Colors: The main colors that are in all of the pictures

Textures: By textures I mean things like Lace, pleats, maybe ripped up clothes, silk

Accessories: Are there any  trends in accessories? (like big rings, necklaces, colorful things….)

Shoes: Are they mainly sneakers, sandals, high heels, boots?

Types of clothing: jeans, dresses, skirts, or a mix?

Style: What style would you call it 50s inspired? hippie? Glam? Rocker? classic? (its  okay if you don’t quite know how to describe this one)

After doing this you will be able to see your style/trends that you follow when selecting clothes to wear and this will translate into knowing what to buy  based on what you need and what you actually wear which we will work on next week ( it will really be a week this time).  I have put my entry below as an example.

Natalia’s Style:

Colors: Black, white, brown, light pink, and earthy colors

Textures: Lace! Silk, suede, leather, fringe and fur

Accessories: rings with big stones, bracelets and floppy hats

Shoes: Platforms, boots

Types of Clothing: Dresses, cut-off shorts

Style: Hippie, Mod, rocker

Here are a few of the pictures I collected ( got over a hundred lol)

Part 1: Define your Style!

Okay many of you may ask: why define your style? why not just buy what you like? While this is a good thing for people who have the funds to buy whatever they like, buying stuff based solely on what you “like” often leads to wardrobe troubles (“I have nothing to wear” even though you have a closet full  of clothes.) I have decided, just now, to do a sort of wardrobe tutorial, part of the “Spring Cleaning” train I guess. Anyway the first part of the challenge is to define your style. Now if you are like me and consider yourself to be of many styles this might be very hard but actually not as hard as you think.

Step 1.) Create a folder on your desktop called “my style” and  browse the web for a week (more if you don’t spend that much time online) and copy or save pictures of outfits or looks (better results are achieved when they are already styled) that you would wear!

*Remember to choose outfits that you would wear, don’t just pick outfits because you think one thing about them is really cool. Email or comment if you have questions about challenge one!  Next week I will attempt at defining my style and we will go from there!

Here is an example of one of the “outfits” I have in my folder from the spanishmoss.com lookbook.
